Job Description
This is an opening for gender professionals with experience in integrating gender with climate programming.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Africa Climate and Clean Air Project is seeking a Gender and Environment Specialist to integrate gender equality and women’s empowerment into a wide range of climate and environment programming under the SLCP Clean Air Africa Project. The roles of the selected individual will include:
- Provide expert gender-framing support to the house hold energy team of the SLCP project
- Provide technical support for and builds the capacity of SLCP Clean Air Africa Project on how to integrate gender into a wide range of climate, environment, energy, and social programming across the full breadth of the project activities, including with implementing partners and sub-national governments.
- Support project partners in integrating gender just climate considerations in their programs
- Contribute to project outputs
- Stays current with technical advancements in the field of climate, gender, and development

Understands the main processes and methods of work regarding to the position. Identifies new and better approaches to work processes and incorporates same in own work. Strives to keep job knowledge up-to-date through self-directed study and other means of learning. Demonstrates good knowledge of information technology and applies it in work assignments
- Design and Implementation of Management Systems: Technical Assistance: Performs defined tasks efficiently and deepens knowledge of area of work. Data gathering and implementation of management systems
Recruitment Qualifications
Education:
Master’s Degree (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Gender Studies or related field is required
Experience:
At least three years of experience in integrating gender-just approaches in climate and /or development programs. Other preferred skills include gender advocacy and the advancement of gender policy
Required:
- Experience in the climate, environment, energy, or infrastructure sector
- Experience in gender integration and conducting gender analyses
- Understanding of current climate issues and policy in international development
Desirable:
- Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills
- Demonstrated flexibility and capacity to adapt to and operate in environments of uncertainty.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to be proactive in problem-solving with excellent listening skills
- Demonstrated ability to advance equity and inclusion in leading the work of teams
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
