Duties and Responsibilities
The main duties and responsibilities will be:
- In coordination with the project officer, ensure technical quality control of all project outputs, including but not limited to publications, policy briefs, reports and other general communications output.
- Provide technical support on integrating climate information services in the Africa SLCP project.
- In collaboration with the project officer, provide detailed planning and coordination of all field research activities.
- Provide technical support and training to program managers and project team members in ensuring high-quality, impactful implementation in environment and climate change, documentation of technical strategies and learning, and ensuring success of the SLCP Clean Air Africa Project.
- Design and deliver technical support and mentoring to program managers and team members throughout the project cycle and especially at critical project milestones to embed a strong environment and climate change approach in programming, including: conducting risk and resilience assessments and analysis; refining project’s logic to incorporate SLCP understanding and research; designing interventions and activities that build towards successful overall project delivery.
- Review project’s technical approaches and implementation strategies and develop customized recommendations to integrate SLCP mitigation measures.
- Keep abreast of new thinking, research and innovations in environment and climate change and synthesize and regularly communicate findings for Project team and partners.
- Facilitate cross-region environment and climate change learning groups to expand and deepen capacity and exchange across Africa and promote Project team’s work and delivery of project objectives.
- Contribute to regional environment and climate change knowledge management and communications particularly on SLCP and to raising our external profile regionally, regularly sharing out findings and updates through appropriate internal and external channels.
- Represent SLCP Clean Air Africa Project in appropriate learning and policy forums. Support Project teams to identify and participate in opportunities for external representation and thought leadership.
- Support the Project with environmental-related research initiatives, and create and disseminate learning and advocacy documents that demonstrate our projects’ impact, innovation and influence on environment and climate change particularly on SLCP.
- Source and document new ideas and innovations from within country programs, private sector partners, researchers and academics and link them with appropriate implementing partners and funding sources to begin to scale up ideas that are proven in tackling SLCP and thus climate change.

Recruitment Qualifications
Education:
Advanced degree in meteorological science, geography, or earth sciences with a specification in climate information services.
Experience:
Required:
- At least five years of technical cross-sector (public / private sector and NGOs) working experience in the context of climate change, resilience and environment Experience with research and reporting experience
- Understanding of current climate issues and policy in international development
Desirable:
- Strong understanding of environmental and climate change policy and practice
- Well elaborated know-how and experience in environmental programming
- Experience designing and implementing climate-resilience activities to support targeted households to better manage climate risks, such as flooding and droughts and other natural hazards
- Strategic thinking ability, capacity to develop innovative policies, systems and new eco-systems
- Excellent communication and networking skills with existing relevant contacts among experts
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and willingness to travel
- Strong organizational and work prioritization skills
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English is required
- Advanced training in spatial planning and development studies are considered a plus as well as work experience and knowledge of relevant fields such as nature-based solutions, ecosystem services, soil protection and agro ecology
